What is Ogarenda?
 

 

This project is originated to give fulfillment to the objectives of a zoological modern one:

Contributing to the wild animals populations conservation through the maintenance, bred and reproduction of copies in captivity, giving priority to the native species in extinction danger , promoting the formation of values and attitudes in the people to create conservationist conscience responsible and participatory through educational programs directed to visiting general public.

Its work is divided in four areas:


NURSERY

 








A place where very small or
newborns animals of all the wild species are received, that by
diverse motives cannot be cares
by their mothers.

 



Many animals that cannot be integrated to their groups are attended, cares, and receive
love in this place.

We work to have the necessary infrastructure for the reproduction
of some species in danger of extinction.

Objectives of the Project

 
 

General objectives

»
Contributing to the maintenance and bred of the wild animals in captivity, and also to education and investigation tending to improve and to protect the wild populations in freedom.

» Reproducing native species animals in extinction danger, in order to forming viable reproductive groups for a future one re insertion in protected areas.

 
 

Specific Objectives

» Raising artificially in adequate conditions, very small or newborns animals of different species.

» To adapt to the captivity animals that must enter the area of exhibition of the Zoological one, avoiding alterations that can affect their future behavior.

» Rehabilitating bred animals in captivity, or adult animals victims of the illegal commerce, who can be released under controlled conditions and agreed to the effective Environmental Laws.

» Reproducing macaw.

» Reproducing other psitacidas according to the possibilities of expansion.

» Reproducing small cats, according to those same possibilities.

» Ceating a database

» Forming human resources and to obtain that the public knows about the importance of the conservation of the native species, trough periodic educative programs.

Animal servants artificially that integrates at present the collection of the Zoological one


Rehabilitation of fauna is much more that to open a cage to permit that the animal run in search of its lost home. We try to think and to act with the respect that all to be alive deserves.



MAMMALS


REHABILITATION

   To be able to survive in their natural habitat,
   the animals will be able of:

•  Avoiding predators.
•  Obtaining food.
•  Interacting properly with those of its    species.
•  Building or to find defense or nests.
•  Be unfolded in a complex environment.

  Rehabilitating to an animal for re to introduce it in its   natural habitat implies:

•  Knowing its place of origin.
•  Determining the species and subespecie
   to which belongs.
•  To have certainty that is found healthy.
•  That surpass the exactly said rehabilitation
(test of conduct).
•  Indicate it with an identification.
•  Free it in an area and habitat that correspond to its natural environment of origin respecting the ecological conditions of the same one (capacity of load).
•  To Carry out a monitoring on its evolution and adaptation.
•  To Include the corresponding governmental authorization in each phase that require it.
